Journalism program changes, Chronicle does too

As the result of major changes in the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Journalism program, we will no longer be regularly producing The Kwantlen Chronicle in print or online. (Detailed information about our new program is available here.) This site, and the student work it contains, will be archived and maintained. We will also use this site, occasionally, for special publications produced as part of our students’ coursework.

Looking for research participants

Ann McBurnie

Ann McBurnie, Operations Manager in the Library, is conducting an action research project entitled “Research Assistants at Kwantlen Polytechnic University: Positioning and Training for Success” in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Master of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University.

McBurnie is recruiting both Kwantlen faculty members who employ research assistants, either currently or within the past three years, for a focus group in November; and any Kwantlen research assistants (RAs), either currently or having worked as an RA in the past three years for a late-October small focus group.

On Thursday, Feb. 11, first-year journalism students will be following the Winter Olympic torch run as it enters Vancouver, from Burnaby, and makes its way across the city. The slideshow of their work will be updated throughout the day, beginning in the early afternoon.

As the countdown for the Winter Olympics went from weeks to days, Kwantlen journalism students spent Wednesday on the streets of Vancouver, capturing images of the city. They went out to explore four different themes: display, excitement, disruption and dissent. The results — more than 80 photos — are presented in the following four slideshows.

Haiti fundraiser, Friday, features poetry and refreshments

Charles Quist-Adadeâ€™s Sociology 1125 students and the Ghanaian-Canadian Association of B.C. will extend a helping hand to Haiti with a fund-raiser on Friday, Jan. 22, from 5:30-9:30 p.m.

The event will feature poetry by Scruffmouth and refreshments will be provided. Donations are tax deductible. It will be held on the Surrey campus in the Fir Building, Room D128.

Kwantlen all dressed up for Halloween

There were costumes galore in the rotunda of the Richmond campus in late October as students got an early jump on Halloween. (Kyle Vinoly photo)

The annual Halloween costume contest, a project of Kwantlen’s Design & Communications division, took over the rotunda of the Richmond campus three days before Halloween officially hit, filling the space with explorers in canoes, Pantone swatches, debonair blondes and a litre or two of fake blood.
